A Whimsical Wedding at an old Virginia Chapel

A whimsical wedding at an old virginia chapel Charlottesville Wedding Photographer

Elijah and Savannah planned the wedding of their dreams at a quaint Southern chapel. Whimsical, bohemian vibes. Loose, organic flowers. An intimate and sacred indoor ceremony. Salem Chapel is a beautiful little historic church in the heart of Virginia. There are so many of these chapels in the South and I love that this one is being used for weddings. Small church weddings used to be so common, and photographing this gave me a nostalgic feeling.

Elijah and Savannah have that young love that makes my photos come alive.  She is creative, soft spoken, beautiful, peaceful. He is structured, outgoing, up for a challenge. He is a Marine. She is an interior designer and a talented florist. I loved how their wedding was a perfect reflection of them and their personalities, and the way they deeply value family and community.

The Venue

Salem Chapel is a quaint, historic church in central Virginia dating back to the Civil War. In the past many of these beautiful old buildings could be found in the area, but most have fallen into decay or been taken down. Salem Chapel was renovated into a beautiful wedding venue with an old fashioned, intimate feel. A wedding at an old Virginia Chapel was exactly what drew the couple to this venue, the perfect fit for the intimate, romantic wedding of their dreams.

The Details

Savannah is a talented artist and florist, who created her own invitation suite featuring her original drawing of the venue. Vine installations outlined the doors of the venue and the reception area, along with colorful floral designs by Max and Dexter. Savannah’s artistry and creative touch was on every detail!

The Colors

Neutrals, pinks, accents of purple & green, all worked together to create a magical color palette for this whimsical celebration. The bride’s love of lace and textures and the classic black suits for the groomsmen created a beautiful contrast, and the gold of August sunshine brought it all to life.

The Ceremony

Inside the chapel Elijah & Savanah said their vows, surrounded by those they loved most. Showered with flower petals as they were pronounced husband and wife, they walked out the double doors to begin a new adventure, together.

The Party

Guests enjoyed an intimate reception in the chapel after the ceremony, the tables dripping with beautiful florals. A dress change, a beautiful first dance, speeches that brought both laughter and tears. A few minutes outside at golden hour for dreamy photos. A DJ that brought the party. What an ending to a sweet, sweet wedding day.
