Michelle and I have been best friends since we were 10 years old, having sleepovers and wearing matching purple tracksuits in gym class. We were shared a love of beauty and the creative arts. When we were kids she would talk about her cool cousins from Virginia. When I was 16 she introduced me to them….I also thought they were cool and I later married one of them.
We remained fast friends as we walked through all the unknowns of the teenage and young adult years. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding and I was one in hers. She had kids first and never judged me for my fear of motherhood, she just told me how wonderful it was. And she was so right!
I had the honor of photographing Peter and Michelle’s engagement photos, and family photos almost yearly after they got married. She inspires me with her grace and beauty, and the way she is a fully present wife and mother. This year I photographed a relaxed, outdoor family session with them on the farm where I grew up, on a recent visit to Pennsylvania.
Childhood friendships that last a lifetime, what a rich treasure. Strong marriages and well-loved children, what a gift.
